After installing in a pain free manner i noticed an extra data download on the log in screen of approx 590 meg..

Better get those installs done and ready !

imaging should also be advised to cut down loading time. Some instructions:

How to alter the shortcut

1)Right-click the Guild Wars icon.
2)Select 'Properties'.
3)Select the 'Shortcut' tab.
4)In the 'Target' field...

Example "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -switch1 -switch2 -switch3

-image
Downloads and Decompresses all the compressed files in the gw.dat file. This will improve load time in new area's and get you up to date.

** During this process it will max out your computer (high cpu and memory usage) aka don't multi-tasks during this process **

Use this switch by itself, the game will exit / end as soon as it's done decompressing.

Usage: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe” -image

Yeah agreed. I plan to do that on Thursday, and then a final -image on Friday.

I'll then degragment my gw.dat file to reduce its fragmentation and speed things up a bit. Long overdue

Anyone else think ANet is waiting until the last minute to stream Elona? I certainly hope download times aren't rediculous. It took a while for some people to get the Nightfall Preview event downloaded. Now there is a whole new continent, textures, audio, ect.

When should we start leaving our games connected?

My gw.dat is 2.4GB. I've never run a "-image", but the game doesn't try to download anything on the login screen.

How big should it be?

I think you can just install it from the cd, and it will have the same effect as streaming. I'll try now.
edit: oh it didn't. when I pressed install it just forwarded me to the login screen.

Elona is prolly already on your PC if you participated in the preview weekend.
They might just need to add some files on top of that.
It will happen when they are ready so I'm assuming it will start late on Thursday.

I expect a lot of the code is already in place, they will know that there will be a lot of people D/L on friday so they would have taken measures to prevent too much of a delay.

Didn't we have a pretty big d/l the week before the preview? I vaguely remember a pretty decent sized chunk right after the skill changes also. Pretty sure we have most of elona streamed.

If you use Windows degrag remember it will NOT degraf the gw.dat file, because its too big, but there are better defraggers which will do all files and free space. But they cost money of course
